Beyond Academics

Our Elementary program offers students many teams to get involved in, such as basketball, volleyball, golf, swimming, soccer, cross country, floor hockey and many more.

Regular exercise is essential to a child’s overall health and positive development. Students participate in numerous informal movement and action games and outdoor recess times, as well as formal gym classes with trained teachers.

Gym classes follow the Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum. In Gym classes, not only do the students have the opportunity to be physically active while learning important skills, but they also work on developing their self-esteem, learn about good sportsmanship and develop positive exercise habits while having a great deal of fun.

The variety and quality of opportunities in the Arts is unique to UMS.

Our elementary school students have access to a visual arts studio which includes a kiln, a large oven to create pottery and ceramics.  Our comprehensive Orff music program runs from Casa through to grade 2, followed by instruction in theory, sight-reading and instrument performance in subsequent grades.  The Orff approach is a “child-centred” way of learning music education that treats music as a basic system like language.  In addition, we offer a multitude of extracurricular classes and clubs in areas such as music, drama, photography and dance.

Extracurricular Activities

UMS offers additional opportunities at an additional cost for in a wide  variety of extra-curricular activities and clubs in such areas as:   Art, science, drama, math, martial arts, rhythmic gymnastics, sports, computers, skating, chess, ballet, photography, choir etc.  Private piano lessons are also available.
