Casa Music Programme

Our music curriculum is designed to help students develop an understanding and appreciation of music, as well as practical skills, so they will be able to find in music a life-long source of enjoyment and personal satisfaction. UMS practices the Orff Shulwerk approach, a “child-centred” way of learning music education that treats music as a basic system like language and believes that just as any child can learn a language without formal instruction, so can every child learn music in a friendly and gentle manner. Students develop their knowledge and skills through listening, performing and creating.

Each year, Casa children are entered into the Sunderland Lions Music Festival where they showcase their singing and use of rhythm instruments and compete alongside other schools.  The more than 50 year-old Festival has provided an opportunity for countless numbers of aspiring young musicians to perform publicly before highly qualified adjudicators.  The high-level of entertainment has provided countless hours of pleasure for proud family members and friends. Casa children also learn to perform songs as a choir for various school events including the Christmas concert as well as sometimes performing for a local retirement home.
