Computers are a large part of our world today. Thankfully UMS has invested in the kind infrastructure and tools to keep up with the ever-changing technological needs of our students. UMS is preparing children to be able to navigate this world of technology with ease. Our Senior Casa students will be learning the basics of coding and robotics again this year. They will begin with Code Hopper which teaches students the concept of algorithms. They will work with coding apps called “Tynker Jr”, “Tynker” and students will be introduced to Code Studio (from code.org). Students will continue to use Scratch Jr in class. Senior Casa students will also be using KIBO Robot in their Coding and Robotics class. KIBO follows the same programming principle as Scratch Jr but is more tangible and puts the theory they are learning into practice. While Scratch Jr is an onscreen programme, KIBO Robot is an actual physical robot. KIBO Robot encourages logical, open-ended, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning. This year, students will have the opportunity to learn with Dash & Dot Robots, Cubetto Robot, Lego We Do 2.0, and Ozobot Bit Robot. We are so pleased to be able to incorporate this important program into our curriculum.
