Our annual UMS STEM Fair was again a great success, with our students in grades 7 and 8 displaying a variety of their scientific inquiry and innovative solutions to real world questions and problems. Having worked on the projects since November (each month completing a stage of their ISP, until the showcase in April), the students were well prepared to show their work. The project is chosen by students and encompasses an area of science or technology that they are interested in. Students apply the scientific method skills learned in science class and the engineering/technology skills learned in technology class. Many thanks to Ms. Woodman for her dedication and vision in organizing this fantastic yearly event. Many other teachers served as mentors and helped evaluate the work, as this project crosses multiple subject areas (writing, math, science, social studies and technology) and serves as an integrated unit throughout the year. It is truly a collaborative effort between staff and students.
