About 70% of Earth’s surface is covered with water, but the supply of fresh water for drinking is limited. In Mrs. Blythen! science class, students were left with the goal of designing and making a simple water filtration device. They needed to use readily available materials and assess the performance of prototypes of the device. The students then needed to use their data to modify the prototype and create a final design. Students were asked to also discuss and make connections to challenges different countries have in regards to filtrating water. It was a series of lessons that not only helped in developing life-long learning, but also showed how real world application of what is being taught allows students to make strong connections globally.
