UMS is pleased to welcome a variety of Canadian authors who represent a broad range of various styles and themes of writing. Our theme for this year’s Literacy Week is Social Justice and Acceptance. Below is a list of the authors that we will be working closely with. Homeroom teachers will provide specific details regarding your child’s Zoom meeting time with the authors. In addition, students in Grade Two to Eight will participate in a Writer’s Craft Workshop via Zoom as well. Stay tuned for details on this. We would like to offer a special thank you to the Parent’s Association for funding this endeavour.
On Friday, January 22nd, we held a themed Dress Down Day to tie in with our literacy week events. Students and staff arrived on Zoom dressed as a favourite character from a book or a movie. What a fun and expressive way to celebrate individuality. We were also pleased to offer a ‘Book Give-Away’ and names were drawn from each grade level for students to win a book and a bookmark. Congratulations to our book winners; these names were posted on Edsby. Happy Reading!
We encourage students to look up these Canadian authors who are listed below and explore some of their works.
