This year has been one to remember and one that marks an incredible example of drive and perseverance. As your Administrative team, we would like to honour the students of UMS for their incredible commitment to their learning. Even though the format of learning looked a little different from methods of previous learning, the students’ ability to adapt and modify the way they learn while developing and integrating their new strengths in their overall and technological skillset, is most impressive! Our students’ overall level of academic achievements remained somewhat consistent; although for many, sitting in front of a screen learning for 6 hours a day, had its challenges. As a school community, we acknowledge, understand, and embrace these obstacles that have been bravely overcome by so many. We thank you for your tenacity and overall commitment to your learning! In life, one of the greatest skills one can learn is how to adapt to changing dynamics beyond our control.
We would like to thank you, the parents, for your ongoing and unwavering support of our school and of our programming. We thank you for your patience and ongoing feedback letting us know of our successes and obstacles which your child was going through. As a community and working through this COVID-19 pandemic together, we have all learned to appreciate and value the importance of a true partnership between school, teacher, parent, and student. We are so appreciative and grateful to our faculty for their willingness to embrace researching and learning new platforms, to be able to modify their lessons and deliver an innovative, quality, and meaningful curriculum using new and alternative formats which met and exceeded the scope of the Ontario and UMS unique curriculums. We also appreciate them opening their homes to our families through Zoom.
We would like to thank the many parents who participated in our Annual Parent Survey. As ownership and an Administrative team, we take this feedback very seriously. It allows us to reflect upon our current practices, methods of communication, our core academic, rotary, and arts curricula, and the delivery model. We are pleased to report that 98.79% of families were VERY SATISFIED/SATISFIED with this school year.
As each school year draws to a close, there are many achievements, experiences, and students’ accolades to share and celebrate. This newsletter will highlight the broad spectrum of learning, specifically digital learning which has taken place. Through continuing to explore and deliver academic concepts through a blended approach of traditional, exploratory, technological, and creative outlets, students have continued to grow in their academics, developing their work ethic and responsibilities, relationships, athletics, artistic endeavours, and setting and achieving personal goals over the course of this year. We are extremely proud of our programs, our faculty, and our national and provincial achievement levels. We will continue to grow and build on these successes, with a reflective practice, continuing the momentum in moving forward with further innovation in the 2021-2022 school year.
As new information and policies are released as per the COVID-19 protocols of the Ontario Government and Health Canada, we will keep you informed of how UMS will be proceeding with our learning platform for September and what that will look like for you and your child/ren. Please know that extreme caution and safety protocol measures will continue to be put in effect for the safety and well being of all students, parents, and staff. We appreciate that there are many choices for parents to make regarding your child’s education. We thank you for choosing UMS and we truly appreciate the trust that you have placed in us. On behalf of the staff of UMS, we offer our warmest wishes to all families for a restful, enjoyable, and safe summer.
