Partnership with Parents
Parental involvement in the school is strongly encouraged. At UMS we believe that strong parent-teacher and parent-school communication makes us unique. We value it because the feedback and input parents provide can be invaluable towards improving the UMS experience. Parents can help their children by providing an appropriate environment for homework completion, getting involved in special projects, volunteering in the classroom or on school trips, participating in special events, and communicating regularly with the teacher.
In addition to the ongoing dialogue between teachers and parents, student progress is officially communicated to parents frequently. An interim report card is sent out to elementary students in November and March, and progress reports for Casa and Elementary students are issued in January and June. Both written reports and personal interviews are used to keep parents informed of their child’s progress throughout the school year.
Parents can also contribute by joining our active Parent Council. This council hosts various events in and around the school and raises money for special events and programs for students. A vibrant Parent Council plays a valued role by providing input, guidance, and consultation. This parent group, representative of all families, contributes an important viewpoint that helps to enhance our current approach while helping to guide our future directions.
